As melodious as a love ballad! The enduring romance of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw stands as a testament to the strength of love in the world of music, and their connection continues to flourish.
The Beginning of a Love Story: Late 1994
The country duo's initial encounter took place at a Nashville performance in late 1994, a time when both were involved with other individuals. At that moment, the "Just to See You Smile" vocalist was in a relationship with Kristine Donahue, while Hill had recently concluded her marriage to Daniel Hill. Two years later, Faith accompanied McGraw on the Spontaneous Combustion tour, and from that point, their affection began to blossom.
A Surprise Wedding: October 1996
Following a whirlwind courtship, the "Don't Take the Girl" singer married his country sweetheart in October 1996 in his hometown of Louisiana. Nearly two decades later, McGraw fondly reminisced about the romantic instant when he proposed to his soulmate while on tour. "We were in the dressing room, here, June 26, 1996, and it was raining and stuff and we’d been on tour for a while together, and I joked around with her about getting married. And so I looked at her, grabbed her by the hand, and dropped forward [on my knees] onstage," he recounted in a nostalgic video in October 2015.
"She said, ‘We’re at a country music festival in a trailer house, and you’re asking me to marry you?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ So I went onstage … When I came back offstage, [I saw] a Sharpie with lipstick kisses all over it, saying, ‘Yes! I’m gonna be your wife.’”
Growing Family: January 1997 - December 2001
The couple carried their love across the nation and later, around the globe, during their Soul2Soul tour.
Amidst performances, award ceremonies, and the creation of hit songs, the pair welcomed three daughters: Grace in 1997, Maggie in 1998, and Aubrey in 2001.
Celebrating Milestones: October 2004 - October 2006
Even during their most challenging times, McGraw and the "Mississippi Girl" songstress have remained steadfastly by each other’s side. When Faith mourned the loss of her father, Ted Perry, in February 2019, her husband paid a heartfelt tribute to him on social media.
"He was the sweetest, kindest most gentle man I’ve ever known,” McGraw wrote at the time. “No man in my life has ever made such an impact on me as to how to be a human, a father and a friend.”
Enduring Love: A Tribute in February 2019
Take a trip down memory lane to revisit McGraw’s enduring love story with the "Wild One" singer!
The overprotective parents revealed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that they weren’t totally ready for their daughters to start dating.
"Look, you don’t want to be mean, but when someone’s taking your daughter somewhere, you want to induce a healthy amount of respect — and fear," McGraw said after saying he strategically placed a sledgehammer nearby when one of his daughters’ dates picked her up from their house.
