Hey everyone, it’s Sandy! Today, I’m showing you a fantastic and easy method to clean your toilet tank without any scrubbing. When I discovered this trick, I was amazed at how straightforward and effective it is.

Let’s dive into how you can achieve a sparkling clean toilet tank with minimal effort.

Why Clean Your Toilet Tank?

The inside of your toilet tank can accumulate dirt, grime, and mineral deposits over time. Since the water in the tank is what gets flushed into the bowl, it’s essential to keep it clean to avoid transferring these impurities into your toilet bowl. While a brand-new toilet might not need this cleaning method right away, older tanks can benefit significantly from this simple trick.

You can even share this method with family members who might find it useful.

What You’ll Need

To start, you’ll need the following:

Citric acid (available online or in the canning section of grocery stores, though it’s often cheaper online)A bucket of hot tap waterAccess to your toilet’s water shut-off valve

Step-by-Step Instructions

Turn Off the Water Supply

Begin by turning off the water supply to your toilet. This will prevent the tank from refilling while you work. You can find the shut-off valve usually located behind the toilet near the floor.

Turn it clockwise to shut it off.

Flush the Toilet

Next, flush the toilet to empty the tank as much as possible. You may need to hold down the handle to ensure as much water as possible is expelled. If there’s still a small amount of water left in the tank, that’s fine; just make sure it’s not too full.

Add Hot Water

Fill the tank with hot tap water from a bucket. You don’t need to fill it completely, but ensure there’s enough water to dissolve the citric acid effectively.

For this demonstration, I used a bucket of hot tap water, and it worked perfectly.

Add Citric Acid

Measure out one cup of citric acid and pour it into the tank. Citric acid is excellent for breaking down mineral deposits and grime. As you pour it in, you might notice a fizzing reaction as it starts to work.

Stir and Wait

Stir the water gently to help the citric acid dissolve quickly. This should only take a few seconds. After stirring, let the mixture sit in the tank for at least an hour. If possible, leave it for a couple of hours to let the citric acid work its magic.

Flush and Rinse

After the waiting period, flush the toilet again to empty the tank. You’ll see a significant difference as the tank empties. The area where the citric acid has been in contact will look much cleaner. Turn the water supply back on and let the tank fill up. Once full, flush the toilet a couple of times to ensure all traces of citric acid are washed out.

Final Checks

Check the tank to make sure all residues of citric acid are gone and the inside of the tank looks clean. If you see any remaining traces, you might want to flush once more to ensure it’s completely rinsed.
