Always check the condition of your car
Whether you’re out for a long drive on a weekend or taking a quick drive to work, checking your car’s condition before leaving the house is imperative. Always take the time to check the basics – oil, tire pressure and brake fluid. Also see if the mirrors are properly tilted, if the air filter is clean and if the brakes are tight.
Put a seatbelt on
This may sound really basic, but putting on a seatbelt is something that many of us ignore.
Wearing a seatbelt is extremely helpful in ensuring your own and your passenger’s safety during a car collision. It helps reduce stress on any body part because it spreads the impact over a wider area of your body. Also take note that when you put on a seatbelt, the risk of fatal injury during an accident is reduced by more than 40 percent.
Don’t drive when drunk
A lot of vehicular accidents are caused by drunk driving. When you have too much alcohol in your body, your senses tend to weaken which leads to car accidents.
If you’re heading to an event or a party where alcoholic beverages are served, it’s better to either take a cab or make sure to control your drinking. It may not be as convenient as bringing your own ride, but just imagine the fatal consequences you may have to face when you drive under the influence of alcohol.
